About this fundraiser:
Westbrook Elementary Parent Teacher Club with Westbrook Elementary School invite you to #GetAMoveAThonItWithWestbrook2024!
Westbrook Elementary School and Westbrook PTC have challenged the students on the Westbrook campus keep their bodies moving for our INAUGURAL Move-A-Thon Fundraiser! While the event was purposely planned to encourage, inspire and support each participant (current Westbrook students), the main goal is for each participant to be active and have FUN! It is expected that there will be approximately 560+ student participants, volunteers to mark laps, maintain hydration stations, music to amp up excitement, and popsicles to finish the event with… There are PRIZES to be earned! It’s no wonder Westbrook students are aptly called, “ROCKstars”! It’s time to ROCK the Move-A-Thon at Westbrook… All that’s missing is YOU!
Westbrook Elementary School and Westbrook Elementary PTC (Parent Teacher Club) have similar, if not identical, hopes, dreams and wishes while being collectively committed to maintaining a community-centered plan of action. Each continue to draw inspiration and ideas from the community and consistently encourage all involved to widen the scope of possibilities. Both Westbrook (Elementary School) and the Parent Teacher Club (PTC) employ growth mindsets, continue to initiate and implement positive change, promote inclusivity, friendship, community partnerships, while simultaneously celebrating, supporting, guiding, sharing resources, learning from and thriving together through the shared community.
It is often said (and joked about) that the theme of the famous children’s book, “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” also rings true in the partnership of Westbrook and the PTC. Both wholeheartedly agree the success of Westbrook students is infinite. Thus far, the most vivid memories made are those in which enrich and encourage each other while journeying together; today and everyday thereafter.
In the eight months since Westbrook opened, there has been an undercurrent of tremendous respect and pride while also demonstrating resilience in the achievements but also in the measured individual academic growth patterns. Each community event that PTC and Westbrook have co-hosted only solidified the positive experience within the community. Together with YOU, Westbrook, the PTC, current and prospective students, staff, faculty, families, neighbors, local businesses, and the whole community provide consistent communication centered on the shared goal of growth! The louder the calling, the harder both Westbrook and the PTC work to forge ahead, make new friends, explore the unknowns and report back with their findings. Your communications, ideas, participation and presence on and off campus do not go unnoticed! You are seen! You are heard! Today Westbrook and the PTC are here to share why fundraisers, such as the Move-A-Thon, are imperative for their continued success and building upon the foundation of the community they’ve built.
Both Westbrook and the PTC are immeasurably proud of the students, their families, the neighbors, nearby schools, local businesses and whole community. The collective agreement is one that while the Westbrook campus is newly constructed and beautifully planned; minor adjustments and slight improvements are necessary. The proposed changes have been discussed to not only assist Roseville City School District in the long term campus maintenance, but also to continue to provide adequate space for the community to congregate.
This is where your help is needed and eagerly anticipated! Westbrook and the PTC NEED: community participation, sharing of the fundraiser website (via email, social media, word of mouth, etc) and hyping up the participants’ excitement leading up and on the day of the Move-A-Thon (April 12th at Westbrook from 9:00am-11:00am). The success of this FUNdraiser is dependent upon Resilience, Organization, Cooperation and Kindness. There is no coincidence that those same skills are also learned character traits of Westbrook Wolverine R.O.C.K.stars!
Picture it, Westbrook Elementary School circa July 2023: Mrs. Brooks has the idea to inspire students and their families to harness and embody the power of unwavering strength, confidence, courage and motivation and to share those remarkable qualities by giving life to the Westbrook campus motto, “What if we can?”
Next, visualize two unsuspecting mom friends that unexpectedly find themselves tasked with the job of co-creating and co-founding a recognized non profit organization, from the ground up, called, “Westbrook Elementary PTC”. History was made and gray hairs have lovingly and abundantly flourished atop the heads of all involved! Equipped with nothing but a rough outline of where to start, the list of to do’s looked eerily similar to: 1. “Do great things” and 2. “Share the passion for Westbrook with the community”. The rest is history! They quickly discovered, the community was equally as invested in success of the proposed plans and continue to not only build upon but also rely on the strength, resilience and team work of the entire community. It’s a safe assessment that the proposed adoption for the counter response to the Westbrook Campus Motto: “What if we can?” slogan is “Together, we WILL!” Please just call all us (that means you too), the “Can Do Crew!”
Apologies for the digression and back to regularly scheduled programming: Ultimately the shared goal(s) of Westbrook Elementary School and the Westbrook Elementary Parent Teacher Club go far beyond the campus and the Roseville City School District boundary lines. The goals, ideas and potential for growth cross cities and counties; states and countries; continents and well beyond. All involved believe in uniting and working together with current (and prospective) students and their families; neighbors; recreation/activities; youth sports; local businesses; exploring and expanding upon collective skill sets, sharing wisdom and knowledge obtained with an extra emphasis on trust, inclusion, involvement and interaction while sharing resources across the community. Thus, the idea of holding space both figuratively and literally for all to gather, share, celebrate, converse, grieve, communicate and unite as whole.
Listed below are examples of some but most definitely not all intentions of where/how to allocate funds raised:
-Bike racks,
-Permanent trash cans (no, there are currently not any permanent trash cans on the Westbrook campus! All trash receptacles are currently on wheels),
-Equipment storage for the PTC, physical education, the Unified Sports Program (a collaboration with the Special Olympics) Tournaments,
-A functional and interactive campus roadway system (street signs and all) to ensure visitors and students do not get lost on campus,
-Field Trip Expenses
-Classroom and Project Supplies (Art Docents, Craft Club, Game Club, Running Club and more)
-Tangible prizes for students (and staff) to work towards but also pizza parties, and the like to incentivize students and staff!
-Software Licensing and extra textbooks for teachers and support staff,
-Alternative lessons, learning styles/methods/devices, English language development (within the approved curriculum) with an emphasis on how each student retains information best - auditory, visual, sensory and or tactile input, etc.
-Books, toys, games, materials and equipment to support all levels of abilities, dexterity, mobility and varying needs to accommodate every student in all ways; always.
-Continue to build the collection of books and materials available in the Westbrook library. Hosting book fairs and events that directly encourage literacy and the importance of reading.
-Provide teachers with a specific annual budget allotment to not only minimize out of pocket expenses on supplies, functional storage/use equipment but to also save time.
-The Season of Giving: Hopes, Dreams and Wishes Mailbox. Acts of kindness and generosity spread throughout the community regardless school(s) attended, neighborhoods lived in, not based on need but gifted to share love and kindness.
-PTC events and activities: Fall Festival: Trunk or Treat, FREE: Toy & Clothing Swaps, the Winter/Snow Gear Borrowing Closet, Sports/Athletic Equipment/Uniform Borrowing Closet, Small Business, Craft & Maker Fairs, Carnivals, Open House, Family Fun and Food Trucks, Dine Outs, PTC meetings, development of clubs, programs, classes and community outreach. (CPR & AED certification classes, emergency preparedness and planning classes, parent led support groups for families of children with disabilities and so much more!
Lastly, please know we could NOT engage in, provide the groundbreaking and innovative learning environments, the elaborately equipped classrooms or the fun things we do/have done without YOUR support. May we humbly remind, no monetary amount is ever required or is too small. Nevertheless, your ongoing backing, support and belief in our wild ideas are very much appreciated.
We leave you with one question: What if we can?
Say it with us: “Together, We Will!”
Indeed we will, friends! Indeed, we will.
Sincerely,
Traci Davis & Tahnee Hodge,
Co-Presidents of Westbrook Elementary PTC - A recognized non profit organization, EIN# 93-2240907.
