Help spread the word
About this fundraiser:
Durkin Park Bulldogs LOVE books and reading, and all students, PreK through 8th grade, deserve a school library where they feel welcome, inspired, and seen. Durkin Park Elementary School is excited to announce our first-ever Read-A-Thon, which will support the Durkin Park Library Revitalization Project!
Durkin Park Library’s books and learning materials have been well-loved for many, many years, and it is time to retire the worn-out and out-of-date items.
The goals of the Library Revitalization Project are:
*To purchase exciting books kids WANT to read- current
fiction, fresh copies of old favorites, and recently published
non-fiction so our students have the BEST books at their
fingertips
*Establish a Makerspace where students will develop their
creativity, as well as critical thinking, collaboration, and
communication skills with hands-on learning.
Curious about Makerspaces? “Making means learning
through trial and error, through practical application, and
through hands-on experience in a social environment,”
according to the Makerspace Resources Task Force of the
Young Adult Library Services Association. Makerspaces
often involve science, technology, engineering, and art.
*Create a learning environment where students will feel
comfortable, valued, represented, and engaged in learning.
Students will participate in the Durkin Park Read-A-Thon by setting personal reading goals, participating in fun literacy activities, and asking families and friends to sponsor them as they READ toward their goals!
When you sponsor a student for the Read-A-Thon, you get books into kids’ hands and help sustain a culture of learning and discovery at Durkin Park Elementary School. We cannot engage in the wonderful learning opportunities we have planned without your monetary support. Please know that no amount is too small. Your backing and support are both truly appreciated.
Your donations will help pay for:
- Exciting Library Books
- Makerspace Activities
