About this fundraiser:
The Cartoon Art Museum (CAM) announces its third annual Graphic Novel Read-a-thon taking place from February 18 through March 4, in conjunction with the Will Eisner Week during the first week of March, to celebrate the creativity and diversity of graphic novels. This grassroots crowdfunding event has helped to create more awareness and interest in graphic novels while raising funds to help the museum thanks to the hard work of enthusiastic readers, museum staff and board, and matching donors. This year our goal is to raise $5,000 with your help and support. Let’s get reading!
“We’re really looking forward to the return of our Read-a-thon,“ said CAM Executive Director Summerlea Kashar, “It’s a great way to encourage people to not only read more, but also to visit their local comic book shops, bookstores and libraries to discover the variety of graphic novels now available and, of course, to help support CAM’s educational outreach.”
Taking part in the Read-a-thon is easy: simply sign up on our Campaign Page. Once you’re registered, share your link with family and friends through your email or social media. Ask supporters to pledge either by how many minutes/hours you read, or by the number of books you complete—or, just set a dollar amount. Then, start your list of books you want to read!!
Contributions to this fundraiser will be matched dollar for dollar during our $50K matching grant challenge! The top three fundraisers will receive one year Family memberships to the museum. Five runners up can receive CAM swag, including pencils, stickers, and museum passes.

About the Graphic Novel Read-a-thon:
Over the past four decades, graphic novels have emerged as a powerful and acclaimed art form as exemplified by works such as Art Spiegelman's "Maus," Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' "Watchmen," and Jul Maroh's "Blue Is the Warmest Color." Readers today will discover an ever-growing world of illustrated narratives, from John Lewis' first-person account of the Civil Rights Era in the "March" trilogy, to the post-apocalyptic world of "Y: The Last Man" by Brain K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra, to the challenges of adolescence as portrayed in "Smile" by Raina Telgemeier, and Jerry Craft's "New Kid."
The Graphic Novel Read-a-thon relies on participants, like you, helping with online crowd fundraising that will support the development of educational services for schools and libraries, the public, technological upgrades, program staff, and the costs of supplies needed in the creative cartooning workshops that the museum offers.
