About this fundraiser:

Hello, Golden Owls! We’re happy to announce this year’s Read-A-Thon, “Read Around the World.” The Read-A-Thon aims to increase students' love for reading through literacy-focused events. It also fundraises over 50% of next year's PTA budget, which goes towards classroom supplies, school subscriptions, after-school activities, assemblies and author visits, 5th grade promotion, special treats, and so much more! Our goal is to read a total of 275,000 minutes and raise $25,000.

The Read-A-Thon runs for two weeks, from March 21 to April 3. Your student can log their at-home reading minutes during this time. There’ll be in-class author visits and local community readers visiting our students, Spirit Week, and a chance to win prizes. Look out for fun-themed activities, and let’s read, read, read!

While reading is the most important part of the Read-A-Thon, this is a fundraiser too! Your friends and family can make a one-time donation, or they can pledge funds per minute read. Either way, you help your school raise necessary funds to make awesome things happen at JA Vargas Elementary!

Here’s the impact of pledges: If one student reads 30 minutes per day with a pledge of just $0.20/minute, they will raise $84. If every student raises this amount, we can fully fund our PTA student enrichment and community engagement budget! This includes classroom enrichment, student assemblies, after school activities, and community events like ice cream socials and movie nights!
