Friends of Thorp is thrilled to announce our 2nd Annual Read-a-thon event, from September 16th to 27th. Picture this: over 850 students, brimming with excitement, delving into books. Their enthusiasm will be ignited by interactive reading challenges, inspirational in-school literacy assemblies, author readings, and more. This fundraiser is not just about hitting our financial targets—it's about instilling a lifelong love of reading in our children.

Year after year, Thorp stands as a testament to what dedicated educators, supportive families, and a community united by a common goal can achieve. Yet, the reality we face is a challenging one; each year, the financial needs of our school outpace the budget allocated by the Chicago Public Schools system. It is here that Friends of Thorp steps in. As a committed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Friends of Thorp—founded and fueled by the energy of Thorp parents—aims to close the financial gap that threatens to hinder our school’s progress. Our mission is clear: to elevate the learning environment for every Thorp student.

Thanks to the support of community partners and families like yours, we've championed the creation of dynamic reading centers, a turf field, a walking path, a gaga ball pit, a playground, an upgraded school kitchen, and numerous other enhancements to enrich our student's educational journey. And for that, we are deeply grateful.

• Items like decodable books for beginning readers;
• Project-based learning books for history, Spanish and more;
• Book Vending machine to reward students on bday/half bday;
• Other Literacy opportunities within the school;
