Help spread the word
Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for visiting my page. I'm participating in my baseball team's Hit-a-Thon to raise money for field improvements and equipment.
I'll get 10 pitches to see how far I can hit the ball. I'm asking my sponsors to help me reach my personal fundraising goal by making a pledge per foot of my best hit or by making a simple flat donation. Just so you know, the farthest possible hit in our ballpark is 375 feet, or 400 feet for a home run.
Thank you for all of your support and encouragement!
About this fundraiser:
Each year, the Chapel Hill High School Varsity and JV baseball teams face substantial costs to operate their program -- uniforms, equipment, field upkeep and facility repairs just to name some. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro School System helps with some costs, and the coaches and others affiliated with the program regularly contribute their own funds to keep the program running, but those contributions are not nearly enough to cover even the most basic expenses. For that reason, each season, the players engage in fundraising efforts which typically involve substantial time investment and some sweat equity – for example, last fall they worked a concession stand at all of the UNC football games.
This season the program is trying a new way to raise some of the needed funds, one that is based on the game itself and will give our supporters, and younger members of the Chapel Hill baseball community a chance to meet the teams and coaches.
On February 24th, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel Hill High School Baseball field, the teams will hold a Hit-A-Thon, with concessions, including hamburgers and hot dogs, for sale. Prior to the event, each player will seek sponsors to pledge a tax deductible amount, per foot, based on the longest distance the player can hit a ball in 10 swings. Sponsors will also have the option of donating a fixed amount, regardless of the hitting results.
To increase the fun, the program is inviting future Tigers to come out and enjoy the festivities. For a $5.00 tax deductible donation, kids between the ages of 6 and 13 will get a turn to take 10 swings at the plate. Pitchers will be provided for each child or, if they prefer, he or she can bring his/her favorite batting practice pitcher. The hitter who hits the ball the farthest in his or her respective age group will win Tiger apparel and an autographed Tiger baseball. And just so the older kids and "retired players" don’t feel left out, there will also be a competition for those 14 and older -- for the same entry donation and prize – with a chance to relive past glories and earn bragging rights. Entry forms will be available at the ballpark on the day of the event.
We hope you will join us for a fun day at the ballpark and, through your donations, help the Chapel Hill High School Varsity and JV teams raise money to ensure they will have the equipment and facilities they need for another successful season.
See you on February 24th! Thank you for your support of the Chapel Hill High School Baseball program. If you have any questions or if you prefer to donate by cash or check, please contact us at chhstigersbsb@gmail.com.
