Please sponsor my Birdathon! Each year, I do a Birdathon to help raise funds for Tahoma Bird Alliance (formerly Tahoma Audubon). We'll try to see as many species as possible in one day (this year on May 12), going from pre-dawn to dusk. My friends Marcus and Heather and I will make a frantic dash from Tacoma to Othello, stopping at 25 or more spots en route. We hope to see at least 120 species. I'll send you a report of how we did, including some photos of birds we saw.

Update: We had a very successful day on May 12 and saw 129 species! This was more than we've had in many years. I'll have a full report later and I will email it to all donors. Thank you!

About this fundraiser:

Tahoma Bird Alliance's Annual Birdathon is back and we are aflutter with excitement!

Birdathon is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and we need your help!

Did you know that since 1970 North America has lost more than a third of our ENTIRE bird population? With Federal Environmental Protection Policies at risk, the birds and their habitats need our help more than ever.

We are a bird conservation nonprofit organization, serving the Pierce County area since 1969. We were born through conservation when Helen Engle and Thelma Gilmur worked with community members and organizers including indigenous activist Billy Frank Jr. to preserve what would later become Billy Frank Jr Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. Helen and Thelma went on to play roles in preserving Swan Creek Park, Snake Lake Park, China Lake Park, and old-growth stands in Point Defiance.

At Tahoma Bird Alliance, we’ve always served the birds. We’re committed to honoring that legacy of conservation and are determined to do our part to slow the rate of bird population decline through education, conservation, and advocacy.

How It Works:

- Teams will go out birding, carefully counting the different species they see.
- Supporters pledge a dollar amount for each species the group spots, OR you can donate a set amount.

EXAMPLE: Supporter pledges $5 /species. The Team that they support spots 30 different bird species on their bird walk. The Supporter will then donate $150 to TBA.

How To Participate:

- Create a Team - Set up your team's page, and invite friends, family, co-workers, etc. to pledge to your team. Then go out and spot as many species of birds as you can.
- Support a Team - pick one or more of our incredible teams and pledge a dollar amount for their count!

Every donation goes directly to TBA's programming:

-10,000 Trees for Tacoma - an effort to increase local native tree canopy and bird habitat
- Birdability® - opening access for people in our community of every ability to enjoy birds and nature.
- In-School Education Programs - working with teachers and schools to include Bird Education in their STEM programming.
-Volunteer support and advertising for our free monthly birding walks
-Free and low-cost educational programs throughout the year
-Habitat stewardship at Adriana Hess Wetland

THE BIRDS NEED YOU! Help us improve Pierce County's ecosystem by participating in any way you can.

Tahoma Bird alliance is made possible by your incredible and continuous support, and for that we THANK YOU!
