Myles Janson

Dear Friends and Family,

I am working to support my teammate's Senior Project in helping an orphanage and youth programs in Santiago, Dominican Republic. We at John Carroll believe in the value of service work, after all, #PatriotsDO! I am asking for support to defray some of the costs associated with the trip and am asking for your help! Any bit helps! Thank you!

About this fundraiser:

The purpose of the trip is to support local youth baseball academies, orphanages, and the parish of Santiago. The leader of this Senior Project is Luke Zagurski, who will be organizing & executing the projects we will be conducting while there. Below is listed a synopsis of these projects:

1) Prior to leaving, set up a “Buddy” program with children from an orphanage in Santiago. The orphanage is attached to a local parish in the Archdiocese of Santiago. JC students going on the trip will send letters to their “Buddy” and begin a correspondence with them and let them know we are coming.
2) We will go to the orphanage to conduct a clinic and play a mixed friendly game with the children for fun (they are aged 12-16). We will donate equipment and supplies, and spend time with the children, assisting at the school attached to the orphanage.
3) Organization and execution of youth camps for poor children in greater Santiago at multiple locations of fields around Santiago and one in Puerto Plata. Members of JC Baseball will accompany Luke to support his mission, and follow his script for conducting and executing these camps. Luke will write all the activities/drills and teach skills to youth Dominican players.
4) To accompany the Clinics, Luke is also organizing an equipment drive to bring baseball equipment to these youth players. He is partnering with many local rec councils and organizations to bring equipment to needy kids.
5) We will also play 3 friendly games while there, at least one of which will be mixed with Dominican kids.
