I’m participating in the Pulse Walk: Penny Per Step Challenge, a community 5K supporting cancer survivors through the Griffin Leukemia Foundation. Jake Griffin is a good friend and ΠΚΑ fraternity brother who is a fellow cancer survivor. He has just completed a summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in celebration of life and living.

I’m walking in his 5K and I’m inviting you to sponsor my steps at just $0.01 per step. Most people take between 6,500 and 7,500 steps during a 5K. That means one pledge typically equals $65 to $75 in total support. However, I have short legs, so expect more steps!

You can also choose to make a flat donation of any amount.

All funds raised help support cancer survivorship initiatives, including transformational programs that help survivors rebuild strength, confidence, and purpose after treatment.

Every step matters. Every penny counts.

HOW PARTICIPANTS FUNDRAISE

After registering on RunSignUp, each participant creates a personal fundraising page here.

Participants then:

• Share their page with friends, family, and coworkers
• Invite sponsors to pledge one penny per step or give a flat donation
• Complete their 5K walk
• Submit one final step total after the walk

Once the final step total is entered, penny per step pledges are converted into final donation amounts and processed automatically.

If a participant does not submit a final step total by the posted deadline, a standard 5K step estimate will be used to process pledged donations.

HOW SPONSORS CAN SUPPORT

Sponsors have two simple options:

OPTION 1: PENNY PER STEP
Pledge $0.01 per step. After the walk, the participant’s final step count determines the donation amount.

Most 5K participants average approximately 6,500 to 7,500 steps.

OPTION 2: FLAT DONATION
Give any one-time donation amount directly to a participant or to the general campaign.

SUPER CAR RIDE INCENTIVES

Pulse Walk includes two Super Car Ride opportunities:

The participant who raises the most total dollars during the campaign will receive a Super Car Ride Experience.
